Kastamonu is situated amid a region of beautiful forests. It is the provincial center and has has several noteworthy monuments, including the 12th-century Byzantine castle set upon a hilltop overlooking the City.

Other local sights include the 13th-century Atabey and Ibni Mosques. The Archaeology and Ethnographical Museum displays artifacts found in the region and the Liva Pasa Mansion Museum also has ethnographical artifacts. Nearby there are rock tombs dating from the 6th century. |
